Milton Bradley Vectrex

The VECTREX Arcade System, also called the VECTREX Graphic Computer System, was manufactured and distributed by General Consumer Electric and Milton Bradley starting in 1982 for $199. The vectrex was an all-in-one game system featuring a monochrome vector-based monitor (think Asteroids).

As the display was only black with white lines, colour overlays were provided for each game, to add graphics and colour for the game, and border artwork similar to that found in arcades. The vectrex shipped with an Asteroids clone, Minesweeper, built in, and also included one analog joystick controller.

The Vectrex died along with many other gaming consoles in 1984, because of the video gaming crash.

Smith Micro almost brought the Vectrex back as a handheld unit in 1988, but the overwhelming popularity of the Nintendo Gameboy made them decide to drop the project.

The Vectrex still has a small but strong fanbase, that is creating new games for this console to this day.

DownloadVecx 0.1.5, requires Mac OS X 10.4.
DownloadEmulator Enhancer, which adds extra features to Vecx.

Vecx is the only Vectrex emulator for Macintosh. It can run just about all the Vectrex software out there, and the Mac OS X version includes sound emulation. The initial release does not support overlays, however Richard will add this in the future if enough people are interested.
