VAX machines range from room-sized to small desktop boxes. They use rather dated hardware, but VAX assembly language is used in some college courses for assembly language and OS development.

MacVAX is a VAX implementation on Macintosh. Used for teaching, it has an disassembly output and register listing at all times; it is written for clarity above speed. It includes a perfectly usable C compiler and VAX assembler.
